2023美本申请拉开序幕！新申请季有哪些大变化

转眼又到了8月，新一轮Common App申请系统在1号全面开放，一场没有硝烟、竞争激烈的美本申请之战即将打响！

所谓“兵马未动，粮草先行”，在申请正式开始之前，今年的Common App有哪些变化？

新申请季Common App五大新变化

1.现已新增64所高校接受该应用程序；

2.修改性别选项以更好地代表申请人；

3.更改公民身份问题以减少访问障碍；

4.新增个人陈述提示;

5.COVID-19相关选填题部分持续保留

主文书第4题有改动，变成“Reflect on something that someone has done for you that has made you happy or thankful in a surprising way. How has this gratitude affected or motivated you?”

回想某人为您所做的某件事，让您以一种令人惊讶的方式感到高兴或感激。这种感激之情如何影响或激励了你？

这题虽然看似是让申请者回顾并感恩生命中重要的人和事，但相信招生官希望看到的，不仅是一封感谢信而已。

招生官想看到的是，在感激之余你是否会继续自我追问：这个让你感谢的人或事，到底给你带来了哪些成长？

①Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.

②The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?

③Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?

⑤Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.

⑥Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?

⑦Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you've already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design.

另外，为了适应越来越多样化的学生，减少偏见或歧视，Common App决定修改部分个人信息问题。

比如：公民身份的选项中，“Other (non-US)” 替换成 International students 和 Undocumented/DACA students 两个选项。删除父母和兄弟姐妹相关问题，父母的职业、学历、就业情况相关问题设置为Optional。性别描述部分，用词从 “sex” 改成 “legal sex”。

众所周知美国本科申请的三大系统，分别是加州大学UC申请系统、Coalition系统和Common App系统，其中CA是目前美国大学申请的主力，其会员学校多达500多所。

这几天大家可能已经发现，往年通过Coalition系统申请的华盛顿大学西雅图宣布，2023Fall改为通过Common App系统申请。

除了华大西雅图之外，今年还有德州奥斯汀分校、德州农工大学、佐治亚大学和华大类似，都把Coalition系统替换成了Common系统。

往年还有埃默里大学、波士顿大学、密歇根安娜堡、UIUC、普渡大学等，都是Common系统和Coalition系统均接收申请，而今年却只能通过Common系统申请，默默地取消了Coalition系统。

其实在今年4月份，Common App已经官宣2022-23Fall将有50余位大学新加入CA系统，包括我们所熟知的西北大学、帕克大学以及上述的德州大学、华盛顿大学等。

那为什么Coalition系统今年被众多学校弃用呢？

主要是因为Coalition今年有重大改革，将不再提供单独的申请，而是将申请过程整合到Scoir系统中。

今年是新系统第一次上线，系统的稳定性和方便性还不确定。对于申请学生来说，意味着要熟悉一个新系统，不如Common系统用起来更得心应手，这大概也是众多学校弃用的理由吧。

不过在TOP30中还有学校尚未加入Common系统，即MIT、乔治城大学及几所加州大学，需要用学校内部系统进行申请。

今年一月份，Common App在官网分享了2022-23新一轮申请季的文书思路，基本与2021-22申请季保持不变，且继续保留可选的Covid-19附加文书题目，这也是Covid-19附加文书出现的第3个申请季。

当新冠走进第3个年头，尤其是受今年4月疫情影响，国内的IB、AP大考相继取消，国外的标化考试、夏校项目依然难以成行。所以对于国际生来说，这篇附加文书或许依然可以着重发挥。

最后一些老生常谈却又极容易被忽略的情况，不得不再次提醒大家。

1：除了活动列表、额外信息、PS等机动内容，其它固定信息尽快填写完整，避免到DDL时出现系统崩溃而来不及填写的情况；

2：尽量避免使用QQ、163、126等邮箱，毕竟以前听说过有遇到这些邮箱邮件被服务器拦截的情况。如果没有学校或其它邮箱，可以考虑申请outlook邮箱；

3：如果在国际学校，学生的成绩单、推荐信等申请材料通常由所在高中统一上传。如果不是国际学校，可能需要自己手动注册上传，所以要提前确认好这些资料的提交方；

4：部分学校在申请时需要提供存款证明，不能使用理财、基金、股票、房产等。可能会在11月1号左右需要，所以要提前准备好足够资金。
